The movie?  The Waterboy - with Adam Sandler.
Yes - that would be me channeling the 13 year old boy inside me - cause I'm cool like that.

  • My favorite picture from the last week - thought I would share it with you all...

This is my new neice Addison - isn't she precious?

  • This has been a GREAT week of vacation.  I believe I last left you at the beginnng of the birthday celebrations on Friday evening - I have actually been putting this post off hoping that I would get some pictures of the party Saturday night emailed to me - but they have not yet made it here to me, so we are largely 'pictureless' due to the fact that my camera ran out of battery power.  Argh.  Anyway - I am just going to break this down by day for ya'll - Enjoy!

    SATURDAY:
Saturday I spent most of the day at a womens conference with my mom and two sisters.  I honestly had a pretty sucky attitude about it - not being totally into organized women's things like that - especially on my birthday.  Getting ready for the day with my sweet sister Hannah I realized however that this was a great opportunity to bless my mom - she really just wanted to spend some time with my sisters and I - and I had this crappy attitude about it.  I realized that so often when mom wants to spend time with me, it has to be on my terms and what I want to do.  YUCK.  What a horrible thing - I have a mom who loves me and wants to spend time with me - who will do the things that I want to do just to be with me...and I have this attitude when she asks me to do something with her?  Double YUCK.  Not a pretty way to see yourself....  Humbled, and grateful for the chance to change my attitude before the day started, I went and was totally blessed and glad that I went by the time I left.

After the conference, I came home and napped for a bit before everyone came over...the family was out in full force - all ten of us, spouses and children crammed into the house for an evening of chili [ummmm - glad I didn't have to go home with any of my brothers], cake and game playing....again - not many pictures, but here is what I have...

**Me and my dad - who says I will never be too old to sit on his lap....awwwww...***

**A couple of my siblings and myself - from L to R - Me, Caleb, Hannah and Sam**

** The cake - compliments of Mom...**

**Sharing some ice cream with my nephew Ian**

**My nephew Michael cheesing it up for the camera**

**My niece Bethany - I LOVE her smile**

    SUNDAY:
Sunday I *thought* that I was scheduled to work in the baby room at church - so rushed to get there early, only to realize that I was not really scheduled - but worked anyway cause they needed an extra hand, and who doesn't like a little hang time with babies really?    Fun.

Left church and had lunch with my brother Ben and his wife and family, as well as my sister Hannah, her husband John and baby Ian...I love going to the same church as them - being able to hang out afterwards is an added bonus...

Sunday night I hung out at the house with mom, dad, and the four youngest kids still at home - relaxing and enjoying the time together...

MONDAY:  Took mom out to breakfast and had a couple of really good hours of heart to heart stuff.   So good to hear her heart and share mine with her.  Precious time.
Early afternoon I headed to my home on the IL side of the river - halloween is a big deal over there, with two nights of celebration...so I headed over to join in the fun...here are some shots of the kids before they left to go trick or treating...

** This is Wendy, Max and baby Graham [daughter of one of her friends - Graham came over to play for the night too] before everyone started to get ready for the evening - Max was so cute with baby Graham - kept saying 'hello baby'...he thought she was pretty cool...as you can see from the picture, she didn't think he was half bad either**

    **Sweet Maddie - pinch **

**Nick, Josh, and ummmmm - neighborhood kid whose name escapes me right now**

**Could this boy be any cuter?  I think not**

    TUESDAY:
School day for Wendy, so I was the 'go with girl' and used the day/quiet time in her office while she was in class to have some reading/correspondence/extra journaling time - really just time to sit and think/write about things and decompress from the crap of everyday life.  I don't have much of an opportunity to do that, so it was extremely welcome time.  Tuesday night was the halloween parade - pretty fun/funny - there were some really good floats, and some that just invited you to make fun of them.  Unfortunately, I did not get good shots of any of them - just this one of Maddie and I in the kettle corn line.  As you can see from the red in our noses, we are FREEZING OUR BUTTS OFF!.  Cute picture though.

    WEDNESDAY:
Happy Birthday to Wendy!  I think that one of the best things ever is to share a birthday [day] or week with a good friend - all the more reason to celebrate as long as possible...so Wednesday we ditched all responsibility and went resale shopping at some great shops in St Louis - went for a late lunch at the Cheesecake Factory...got home in time for a late dinner out with the family - then home for some yummy birthday cake made by the neighbor...I have some cake pictures, but since I didn't run any of the birthday shots by the birthday girl first I am not going to throw them out there without her approval... [aren't I the nice one?]

    THURSDAY:
The day was a repeat of Tuesday all day, then Thursday evening it was girls night at Baileys Chocolate Bar.  SO. FUN.  How could it not be?  Good friends, good food, CHOCOLATE and coffee all in an amazing atmosphere - yep - doesn't get much better really. :)   See Wendy's site for more details and great pictures of the night...

** This is one of my favorite shots of the night - me and sweet Maddie before heading out for the night**

Okay folks...that is a weeks worth right there...and I am tired of sitting here in front of the computer - more tomorrow...

  • You know that point where you have so much that needs to be covered, you don't know where to start?  That is where I am at right now...So this is a LOT - consider yourself warned before you go any further.

I think that the last time I left you, I was just beginning my vacation....so let me back up to there...

Thursday was my last official day at work last week - one of those fantastically busy days that seem to fly by - the best kind, in my humble opinion, when you are getting ready to go on vacation and are having a problem staying focused on the tasks at hand....thursday night I got to hang with the Mucci kids for the night while J and W were out of town - we had a great time together - very nearly impossible not to [have a great time] with these kids really...

Friday morning after everyone was to their respective places where they needed to be, I took my sweet time getting ready and went in to work for a bit to tie up some loose ends - it was a good thing that I did, but I was SO glad to leave and start my vacation for real.

I decided my first stop would be to see Liz - my friend who also does my hair.  She is amazing and just about the only one that I will trust with it - we have enough trust built now that I can go in to see her and give her a little bit of an idea what I want, and she will run with it and make it look awesome.  There have even been times that I have gone in and said 'Okay - do whatever you want'...super cool to trust her enough to know that she won't make me regret saying those things!

Once again, I was not dissapointed - she did a fabulous job - you can see part of it in the pictures below - but they really don't do it justice - we went super dark and red on the underneath part of my hair, with a huge chunk right in front as well - then really blond highlights again on top - it is great...it looks really sharp when it is straight, but good when it is curly too...I am very pleased.  Great way to start out my birthday/vacation week...

I proceeded home to get ready for the evening - my sweet sister Hannah and her husband John had asked to take me to dinner and to hang for the evening - so we did - having dinner at Lonestar Steakhouse.  I actually ate steak for the first time in YEARS.  That was a little wierd, but yummy.  And now I can go another five or ten years before doing it again...I actually got a picture because I figured those who know me best probably wouldn't believe it, but then my *brand NEW* camera quit working and the pictures are gone forever...[no fear however - speedily replaced - but that is another story for another time].

At any rate - it was a good time, good food, good conversation...

From there we proceeded to the St Louis City Museum.  I had never been, but heard really good things about it and wanted to go - so we did...[each with a very full belly - note to self - next time do not go immediately after ingesting birthday dinner...]  Check out their website for better pictures of the place...it is like this huge playground for adults [and kids too].  There is literally nothing off limits - you crawl and climb and explore - nooks and crannies and secret passageways and tunnels - SO FUN.   I cannot even tell you how fun.  And we only did the inside - the outside was closed, but there is tons more to do out there as well.  I will definitely be going back.

I know that you are dying to see the pictures now - so here you go...

** There was some empty space on the blackboard wall - so what do I do?  Another shameless plug for my birthday!  **

**Not the most flattering shot in the world - but this was one of the coolest slides ever - you hopped on at the third floor, and slide 'til it spits you out right by the entryway on the first floor.  Those brightly colored things above my head?  They are rollers that are all painted differently - no two alike - and mounted so they still spin - so if you stick out your hands as you are riding down, they make a huge racket - super cool sounding... **

** John and Hannah - you can't tell 'cause of the flash, but they were climing down out of one of the little passageways and it was PITCH BLACK - I had no idea if I had the camera pointed in their direction or not - I was shocked that I got them [aren't they sweet all holding hands?] **

    ** SQUEEEEEZZZZZZEEEEE!!! **

    birthday 2006 033

** Okay - this is super funny to me - again, you have to see this spot in its context - but basically what happened was I went crawling and exploring through a tunnel that [maybe] I wasn't supposed to go in - it spit me out underneath this particular part of the 'exhibit' and I had to crawl out into the main entryway on the floor.  There were a TON of people standing around - so they all got to see me in all of my exploratory glory [just call me Jaques Cousteau **

    birthday 2006 032

** Last shot of the night - just hangin' around having a blast **

So there you go - hope I didn't lose anyone along the way [you DID ask for details, didn't  you? ]

More on the actual 'birthday' to come....

  • Ahhhhhhhh

That is the sound of me beginning a week of vacation.

    Sweet.

More later - lots going on in the next week.

    Tomorrow is my birthday!!

    WOOHOO!

[shameless plug for myself, but I don't care!]

  • What NOT to do in the bathroom at the YMCA

So last night I didn't use the restroom before heading out to pilates.

Consequently, I suffered from a serious need to use the restroom for most of the class.

As soon as class was over, I very nearly ran to the bathroom - barely stopping to throw my shoes on - without tying them [no time for that when you have to get there NOW].

Being the queen of multi-tasking that I am, once I am situated in the bathroom I decide that I will tie my shoes, not paying the slightest bit of attention to the fact that I am on one of those new-fangled automatic sensor toilets....

Much to my chagrin, when I bent over to tie aforementioned shoes, the automatic sensor decided that I must be through - and started to flush CONTINUOUSLY, leaving my [ahem] 'underside' thoroughly drenched.

    Bidet - YMCA style.

    YUCK.

Note to self - do not make any sudden movement when on automatic sensor toilets.

    Check.

  • Introducing...

    Addison Kay

Welcome to the world little one.  How glad we are that you are here.

[those are my brother Jesse's hands holding her - he is super proud to be an uncle for the seventh time at the ripe old age of ten...but alas, the rest of the picture was MESSED up, so I cropped it to focus on baby ]

  • IT'S A GIRL!!!

She does not yet have a name, but she weighed in at 8 pounds, 6 oz., and is 21 inches long.  Beautiful light red hair like her big sisters - lovely skin - 10 yummy fingers and toes...she is the lovliest thing I have seen in a very long time.

    Love at first sight really.

I went to the hospital after work, fully expecting to wait in the waiting room until baby was born - but my sweet sister in love asked me to be in the room with them when baby was born....I tell you what - I have been to 10 births in my life, and it never gets old - never less a miracle.  There really are no words - I am blown away.

I was holding it all together - being all cool and not crying right when she was born - then they put her in my arms and I tried to begin to whisper in her sweet little seashell of an ear how glad I was to meet her - that I have been praying for her - how blessed we are to have her in our lives...and it was over.  Let the waterworks begin.  [Who cares so much about being calm, cool and collected anyway?  This is my neice we are talking about!]

Yep - she had me at hello.

    God is good.
    I am grateful.
    Pictures soon.

  • Running update...

Tonight I ran two miles straight.  Like the one mile mark, I realize that for some that is not a huge deal - however, for me - HUGE.  I am VERY proud of myself - previously when attempting to be this 'athletic', I quit early on - but I think this is going to stick, and am just as proud of myself for sticking with it as I am for running two miles.

    So there you go.

In other news, I got my Illinois license plates and drivers license today.  Believe it or not, it is the best picture I have ever had on a drivers license - one that I will be sad to replace...  Wendy was the 'go with' girl and took pictures of the event - see her site soon for pictures and a better story-telling version of the day.

All in all a pretty full day.

Tomorrow my sister in law is being induced, which means that hopefully by the end of the day I will an aunt again.  Pray for her and my brother if you happen to think of me/them.  I love newborns....and tomorrow by this time I will be holding one....

    ahhhhhhhhh
